Lead developer – Job description

Cognizant – Qualification:

Responsibility:

Gathering Requirements:

Participate in JAD (Joint Application Development) requirements gathering meetings and support documentation as appropriate (Business Functional Technical UI Usability Data Compliance Data Migration NFR 3rd Party Tools and Products).

Ask questions and provide resolution to areas that are vague and unclear and for which the Technology Lead needs more information.

Project Estimating:

Understand how estimates (size of effort, etc.) are made at the work level in the applicable work area, measure and report actual effort versus estimated effort, and ensure work progress is reported in C20 or other applicable tool.

Capability Development:

  • Become expert in core competency and develop additional competencies.

Design and Analysis:

  • Prepare HL design and detailed design documents with assistance of architect for assigned area.
  • Review all deliverables created by developers.
  • Investigate non-functional requirements and design for NFR as needed.
  • Understand the interdependencies of the various components in the work packages being developed.
  • Creating a detailed design and assigning it to the developer.
  • assist the Project Manager / Technical Lead in preparing the project plan from a technical perspective.
  • assist in the development of proof of concepts as designed by the Designer / Solution Architect.
  • initiate the setup of the development environment.
  • Provide demo to client for early feedback.
  • create quality control points for all deliverables.

Coding:

  • develop layer coding, business layer coding, interface development, service development, stored procedure creation, etc. as required for the work package/project.
  • CTS and custom coding standards, guidelines and best practices.
  • Understand database concepts and write efficient queries.
  • bring clarifications/problems/concerns regarding work product to leader.
  • Regular review by peers/technical leads.
  • participate in setup activities to establish required environment.
  • deploy created code to test environment.
  • conduct peer reviews during design coding and testing.
  • Complete documentation according to scope.
  • create guidelines and checklists for development and testing activities.
  • Provide feedback to the design team.
  • exchange feedback with developers to verify that code meets requirements.
  • Incorporate changes according to feedback.
  • provide necessary and timely status updates to Supervisor / Technical Lead.
  • Highlighting potential risks to the leads.
  • Updating the traceability matrix for the developed work package.
  • assist developers in resolving technical issues during programming.
  • Following SCM guidelines established for the project.
  • bring clarifications/issues/concerns regarding work product to the project manager in a timely manner.
  • Proactively alert the Project Manager to potential risks.
  • assist with process audit activities.
  • adhere to processes and tools (use cognizant 20 quality management system awareness).

Audit:

  • development of comprehensive unit test cases and unit test plans.
  • execution of comprehensive unit tests.
  • preparation of unit test protocols.
  • Prepare and assist in preparation of unit test strategy.
  • plan documents and data requirements.
  • automate unit tests and assist in the automation of unit tests.
  • Performing peer reviews of unit test cases.
  • perform integration tests for developers by integrating components.
  • Review test cases prepared by developer.

Defect management:

  • Participate in defect triage meetings.
  • performing RCA for identified defects.
  • Revise code based on comments from code review/defects identified in unit testing, peer testing, SIT UAT testing or other relevant testing phases.
  • Assist in knowledge sharing and supporting the organization in the event of post-production defects as required.

Process improvements and compliance:

  • Participate in innovation meetings.
  • implement process improvements to reduce manual intervention (e.g., automation).
  • assist with process audit activities.
  • Generate ideas to add value and share them with technical lead.
  • Process and tool compliance (use of Cognizant 20, knowledge of quality management system IDE, etc.)

Knowledge Management:

  • Participate in updating knowledge assets user manual online help document installation manual/scripts.
  • Conduct knowledge transfer sessions for new members of the project team.
  • conduct training sessions through the Academy (if approved).
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members to ensure component quality.
  • contribute / search / reuse all types of assets from the repository.

Personnel management:

  • Collaborate with the team.
  • conflict resolution / conflict management within the team.
  • conduct internal training for developers in the team.
